ADHD Medication &Titration
Carefully managed treatment with monitoring and support at every stage.
What Is ADHD Medication Titration?
ADHD medication titration is a structured clinical process in which treatment begins at a low dose and is gradually adjusted to achieve a safe and effective outcome.
The appropriate dose varies from person to person, depending on symptom response, physical health, and tolerability.
Titration usually takes several weeks, allowing clinicians to identify the lowest effective dose that provides consistent benefit while remaining safe and well tolerated.
When Is Medication Appropriate?
Medication may be considered when ADHD symptoms significantly affect daily functioning, such as work, education, relationships, or wellbeing.
Before prescribing, we review your diagnosis, medical and cardiovascular history, current medications, and any potential contraindications.
For some people, medication is an important part of treatment. For others, approaches such as ADHD coaching, psychological support, or lifestyle strategies may be more appropriate.
All decisions about medication are made collaboratively between you and your clinician.
How ADHD Medication Is Introduced
All ADHD medication is initiated and monitored through a structured clinical pathway to ensure safe prescribing and careful dose optimisation.
Assessment & Baseline Checks
We review your diagnostic assessment, medical history and current medications.
Baseline blood pressure and pulse readings are confirmed to ensure medication can be prescribed safely.
Medication Initiation Appointment
If medication is agreed, you attend a structured initiation appointment.
We confirm your starting dose, explain what to expect, and issue your first prescription via secure electronic dispensing with home delivery.
Ongoing Review & Continuing Care
Medication is reviewed regularly after titration to ensure it continues to be safe, effective and appropriate.
Once a stable dose has been reached, follow-up appointments are arranged in line with national guidance. These reviews include:
• Ongoing symptom response
• Side effects and tolerability
• Blood pressure and pulse monitoring
• Weight (where clinically appropriate)
• Review of treatment goals
Medication may be continued, adjusted or discontinued based on clinical review and shared decision-making.
Monitoring & Dose Optimisation
During titration, We monitor symptom response, side effects and relevant physical health measures at regular intervals. Doses are adjusted carefully to achieve a stable, effective treatment level.
Shared Care & GP Handover
Once medication has been stabilised, shared care arrangements with your GP may be considered where clinically appropriate.
Shared care involves a formal agreement between our service and your GP, allowing your GP to continue prescribing under an agreed shared care protocol. Acceptance of shared care is at the discretion of your GP practice and cannot be guaranteed.
Until a shared care agreement is formally confirmed, prescribing and monitoring remain the responsibility of our clinical team.
We provide a detailed summary of your diagnosis, treatment plan, and monitoring requirements to support any shared care request.
